Baku to host meeting of EU-Azerbaijan cooperation committee

The 10th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Committee has been scheduled for 25 September in Baku, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmud Mammadguliyev, said on sept.19.

According to Mammadguliyev, political and economic, as well as infrastructural issues were included in the agenda. The issues under the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) and the realization of the action plan under the ENP signed in November 2006 in Brussels with regards to energy, trade and human rights, are planned to be considered in the event.

Currently Azerbaijan and the EU cooperate under the ENP program. The ENP budget envisaged for Azerbaijan for 2007-2010 totals €92mln.

The priority directions of the ENP action plan for Azerbaijan (2007-2013), adopted in Brussels in November 2006, are -strengthening of democracy in the country, improvement of business and investment climate, support for sustainable economic development, adjusting the economic legislation and management practices, strengthening of cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan in the energy and transport sectors, regional cooperation and cooperation in border governance.

The events will cover three main priority areas - improving the management system; economic and social reform, energy, transport, environment and infrastructure.
