The Georgian foreign trade turnover (not including unorganized trade) was $3.483.2 million in January to August. This index is 34.7 percent less than similar period of 2008, statistical department said. Export and import operations declined by 31.7 percent and amounted to $729.6 and $2.753.6 respectively.
Negative trade balance hits $2.024.1 million in January to August. This index is by 36.7 percent less compared to the same period of 2008.
During the report period, Georgia has negative trade balance with 102 countries, the trade deficit with which amounted to 2.140 million, compared to 105 countries and $3.346.5 billion at the same period of 2008.
In January-August, Georgia's positive trade balance was $115.9 million with 21 countries, compared to $150.7 million -19 countries at the same period of 2008.
During the report period, Georgia had a trade surplus of more than $100 million with 8 countries: Canada ($68.5 million), Armenia ($27.3 million), Iraq ($6.4 million), Angola ($3.1 million), Kazakhstan ($2.9 million), Burkina Faso ($1.9 million), Uzbekistan ($1.2 million) and Egypt ($1.1 million).
