By late 2009, the Baku International Sea Trade Port will ship about 200,000 tons of cement clinkers from Iran, a source in the port said. Clinker is the main component for cement production.
"Since early 2009, the port has handled about 170,000 tons of cement clinker, and it will reach about 200,000 by late 2009," said the source.
The source added the received clinker is shipped on the universal port berths available on the dry cargo terminal.
Shipment of the Iranian clinkers began in February this year. According to the consignee's data, contractual volume of clinker imports from Iran is one million tons. About 200,000 tons fell to the first year.
Earlier, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported that about 1.1 million tons of cement and cement clinker were imported to Azerbaijan in January-July, which is 17.8 percent lower than the same period in 2008. Cement and cement clinker in this period were imported at about $39 million, which is 18.2 percent lower than the same period last year.
Cement clinker in January-July were imported in the volume of 414,800 tons and this figure is less than last year by 28.3 percent. Clinker is imported in the amount of $13.1 million, which is lower than last year by 25.6 percent.
In January-July 2009, the country imported about 677,000 tons of cement, which is 9.7 percent less than in January-July 2008. Cement in this period were imported worth about $26 million, which is less than last year by 13.8 percent
