Government to submit development project of Azerbaijani Railway to presidential administration: minister

The government will submit the Azerbaijani presidential administration a project of the state program to develop Azerbaijani Railway CJSC over 2009-2013 soon, Azerbaijani minister of transport Ziya Mammadov said on October 13.

Mammadov said that earlier a project of the program was submitted to the government to get final comments.

"Cost of the program over 2009-2013 is estimated to the amount of 1 billion manat," Mammadov said.

The program envisages rapid development of railways, renewal of fleet, overhaul of roads, power supply, signalling, communication and other facilities, transition from direct current alternating current, putting high-speed passenger trains into operation, modernization of technical means. It is necessary to conduct effective transport policy, develop border infrastructure, improve customs legislation, to apply modern technologies to take full advantage of the railway. Operations will be accelerated after the document is approved, head of Azerbaijani Railway, Arif Askerov, said earlier in an interview with Trend .

These operations will increase fright flow, creation of conditions for transportation of passengers, increase speed of transition, ensure safety and timely delivery of goods. Operations on reconstruction will also ensure freight flow and timeliness of transportation to the North-South, East and West.
