Several foreign companies expressed their desire to participate in the reconstruction and technical modernization of Turkmenbashi sea port.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow got familiarized with submitted projects and made concrete comments and proposals concerning their revision, the national TV channel Altyn Asyr reported.

Experts said that full-scale reconstruction will require investments worth several billion dollars. The priority tasks include the construction of new marine terminals with multi-functional berths capable to place ships of any type and capacity. There will be warehouses for processing and storage of transit goods and implementation of export-import operations, equipped with powerful load and unload equipment.

The international port of Turkmenbashi is an important component of modern transport and communication infrastructure built in Turkmenistan to ensure further progress of the country, its successful economic and social development and integration into the international relations", Berdimuhammedow said at a governmental meeting.

Marine freight transportation has great importance in foreign economic relations of Turkmenistan. Volumes of cargo processed at the berths of the Caspian port increase. The industrial and agricultural equipment, vehicles, metal, timber, mineral fertilizers are transported vie the port.

Polypropylene, coke and other oil products, chemicals and production of construction industry are transported abroad.

The port, serving as a major transit hub of the international transport corridor Europe-Caucasus-Central Asia, will be fully changed, Turkmen press reported today.
