Jordan, Kazakhstan agree to build closer ties

Jordan and Kazakhstan agreed on Tuesday to develop specific plans to bolster bilateral cooperation in different fields and boost bilateral economic cooperation, Xinhua quoted the Jordan News Agency Petra as reporting.
   In talks in Amman between King Abdullah II of Jordan and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the two sides called for developing program to foster cooperation in fields of energy, tourism, agriculture, and pharmaceutical and food industries.
   The two leaders also looked into cooperation in the medical sector, construction and defense industries, according to Petra.
   Jordan's exports to Kazakhstan amounted to about 127 million U. S. dollars over the past five years, while the Arab kingdom's imports during the same period stood at 3.5 million U.S. dollars. Jordan mainly exports foodstuff to Kazakhstan, while it mainly imports steel, aluminum and meat.
   Discussions between King Abdullah II and Nazarbayev also covered regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly efforts to jump-start Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to end the decades-long conflict based on the two-state formula that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state on the Palestinian soil.
   The two leaders also urged for cooperation between the Muslim states to stand up to challenges at hand.
