The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry introduced a ban on the night movement of international and long-distance buses in Baku May 6, the ministry said.

These measures were taken to enhance security measures for passenger transportation.

The ministry defined period from 01:00 to 06:00 as rest time of drivers. After 16:00, the movement of buses from Baku in different areas will be limited.

The Ministry urges drivers and passengers properly assess the situation and be careful. These measures are being taken to ensure the safety of citizens.

A traffic accident this morning resulted in the death of five people, Azerbaijani Central Traffic Police Department spokesman Kamran Aliyev said. Eight were injured.

A passenger bus on the Ganja-Baku route collided with a truck on the 140-kilometer mark of the Baku-Gazakh Highway in the Hajigabul region, Aliyev said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the bus driver likely fell asleep at the wheel.

This is not the first traffic accident leading to death since early 2010.
