The Kazakh Transport and Communications Ministry discussed the Uzen-Turkmenistan railway line linking Europe and the Persian Gulf at a meeting this week.

The railway line was the main topic on the agenda during talks between Kazakh official Abelgazi Kusainov and Turkmen Ambassador to Kazakhstan Makhtumkuli Akmiradov.

"The Turkmen section is nearing completion," Akmiradov said.

Exploiting the corridor requires the timely commissioning of the Kazakh section, he added.

Kusainov noted that the construction of the Kazakh section is a priority.

"Accordingly, ts implementation is closely monitored by our President Nursultan Nazarbayev," he stressed.

The railway line's total length (Uzen-Kizilkaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan) will be 677 kilometers.

The Kazakh, Turkmen and Iranian governments hope to launch the route by December 2011.
