Georgian commercial banks' joint assets increased by 4.6 percent

As of July 1, 2010, total assets of commercial banks operating in Georgia increased by 407.2 million lari ($ 1 = 1.84 lari), i.e by 4,6 percent compared to the previous month. The figure hits 9214.7 million lari.

The National Bank of Georgia said that own funds of the banking sector amount to 1.576 million lari, equivalent to 17.1 percent of the total assets of commercial banks. The participation of foreign capital in the authorized capital of banks amounted to 78.8 percent.

The banking sector completed June, as the previous month, with profit. As a result of the month it hit 8.5 million lari, and for the year - 37,3 million lari. The share of five largest banks in total banking sector assets increased by 0,2 - percentage points, reaching 78.6 percent compared to the previous month.

As of July 1, 2010, the banking sector of Georgia is represented by 19 commercial banks. There is foreign capital in the authorized capital of 13 banks participated by foreign capital, and two are branches of foreign banks.
