Azerbaijan, Georgia sign memorandum

Azerbaijani transport minister Ziya Mammadov and Georgian minister for regional development and infrastructure Ramaz Nikolashvili signed the final protocol on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad of the joint ninth meeting of the coordination council, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport said.

During the meeting, they discussed aspects to realize the project, approve the project of reconstruction of the railway on the territory of Georgia, the project of building the station Kartsakhi, realization of the project to build the station Akhalkalaki, amendments to the budget of the railway Marabda-Kartsakhi and other issues.

It is planned to construct a new 105-kilometer branch railroad as a part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. About 76 kilometers will stretch on the territory of Turkey, 29 km - Georgia. Moreover, a railway section Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Marabda will be reconstructed in Georgia to increase capacity up to 15 million tons of cargo a year.
