Georgian commercial banks' total assets increase by 6.3 percent

As of August 1, Georgia's banking sector is represented by 19 banks, including 14 with foreign capital in the authorized capital and 2 branches of foreign banks. According to the National Bank of Georgia, total assets of commercial banks (with current prices) increased by 577.6 million lari, or 6.3 percent, and amounted to 9792.3 million lari compared to the previous month.

Own funds of banks amounted to 1636.6 million lari. The figure hits 16.7 percent of all assets of commercial banks. The foreign capital in the authorized capital of banks amounted to 79.6 percent.

The banking sector completed July, as the previous month, at a profit. Profit for the month was 22.3 million lari, and since the beginning of the year - 59,6 million lari.

The share of five banks with major assets in the banking sector increased by 1 percent up to 79.6 percent compared to the previous month.
