The European Union shows great interest in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan because of it key position in the Central Asian region, EU representative Johannes Laitenberger has said in Ashgabat.

Laitenberger participated in "Contemporary Europe", a seminar organized by the European House in Ashgabat together with the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the Neytralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Employees of the sectoral ministries and departments, the Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union, the Economists Union, Turkmen Economics and Business School and others were invited to the event.

"Holding an enormous resource potential, Turkmenistan is very promising partner for the EU in different spheres, including in the energy sector. Moreover, this interest is largely conditioned by the political stability of the country, and its reputation as a reliable and responsible partner," Laitenberger said in Ashgabat.

The event focused on the strategy of developing EU cooperation with Central Asian countries, particularly with Turkmenistan.

The seminar addressed issues relating to the changes that have occurred recently in the structure of the European Union and the main functions of EU institutions such as the Council of Europe, European Parliament, the Council of Ministers, the European Commission, European Court of Justice and the European Central Bank.
