Iranian Sungun copper mine increases copper mining

During the seven months of this year (in Iran a year begins in March 21) copper mining at the copper Sungun mining and processing complex increased by 14 percent to 84,700 tons, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization’s report quotes (IMIDRO) the complex head Reza Sharifi as saying.

During the seven months of this year (in Iran a year begins in March 21) copper mining at the copper Sungun mining and processing complex increased by 14 percent to 84,700 tons, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization's report quotes  (IMIDRO) the complex head Reza Sharifi as saying.

Sungun mining and processing complex operates in the Iranian province of Eastern Azerbaijan under the IMIDRO's control. The complex consists of Mazraeh opencast mine and Sungun concentrating factory.

In the second half of 2006, Iran began developing copper ore in the Sungun cooper mine in the north-west of the country. The revealed resources of the mine in early 2007 was estimated at 1.7 billion tons of ore, containing 0.61 percent copper an average, of which reserves - 384 million tons of ore with 0.67 percent copper are proven.
