Enough warm weather and lack of rainfall during the second half of December are not favorable for the crops that have already been made in the agrarian sector of Azerbaijan, the Agriculture Minister of Azerbaijan Ismet Abbasov told journalists on Thursday.

The minister said today in Azerbaijan, unlike Europe, which is under the snow for a long time,  no precipitation, and temperature is normal. "However, weather conditions in November and early December had a positive impact on the seeding process, allowing to increase the planting area by additional 50,000 hectares," said the minister.
Moreover, Abbasov said that the lack of rain is bad for crops.

The minister said the warm weather also creates conditions for the pests of crops. Despite this, the Agriculture Ministry expects that it will soon rain and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure productivity.

The total crop production declined by nine percent in Azerbaijan in January-November 2010 compared to same period last year. Total agricultural production in January-November declined by 2.7 percent on an annualized basis.
