Uzbekistan’s account balance surplus doubles in 2010

Uzbekistan's account balance surplus reached $4.2 billion in 2010, or a 1.8-time increase, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said on Friday at a governmental meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, the Uzbek leader noted that the volume of exports grew by 10.8 percent in 2010 on the backdrop of the global financial crisis.

According to official statistics, the country's foreign trade turnover in 2009 increased by 0.1 percent to $21.21 billion. The volume of exports rose by 2.4 percent to $11.771 billion, imports decreased by 2.7 percent to $9.438 billion, and the account balance surplus dropped by 42.7 percent to $2.333 billion.
