Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sent to Azerbaijan a new coordinator for road projects in the country - a specialist of the Department for Central and West Asia Reddy Bathula, a government source said.
"During a three-day visit, the ADB mission got acquainted with the implementation of Bank-financed road projects in Azerbaijan," the government said.
ADB is currently financing the construction of a Masalli-Astara highway, where there are plans to begin construction soon, and the rehabilitation of the Ganja ring road.
For their implementation, the Bank has allocated $255.4 million from Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) worth $500 million.
Rehabilitation of the Ganja ring road with a length of 39 kilometers will be completed by the end of 2011. The work is conducted by the contractor - the Italian Impreza Company and subcontractor - Azerbaijani AKKORD Company.
The Masalli-Astara highway is envisaged to be completed in 2012, although the period of spending ADB loan was extended until the end of 2013.
