VINCI Construction presents draft on international airport in Ashgabat

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov considered the construction projects developed by the French company VINCI Construction Grands Projects, including the project to build an international airport in Ashgabat. The presentation was made by VINCI President Allan Bono and Country Manager for Turkmenistan Igor Gorvitz.

Upon thoroughly considering the projects, Berdimuhammedov provided the comments and recommendations. The President said that each of new facilities should combine the best national traditions of the art of building and decor and architectural innovations, and the latest engineering thought.

Berdimuhammedov said it is important to consider all factors, including climatic conditions of Turkmenistan, in finalizing the project to build an international airport in Ashgabat.

The French businessman expressed his company's interest to further strengthen business contacts with Turkmenistan, where have been created all conditions for effective collaboration, and he pledged to make every effort for a decent performance of its contractual obligations.

Turkish Polimeks, German companies and EWC Hochtief, France's Bouygues and others also take part in the international tender for the project.

The current capital airport was built in 1990. Ashgabat carries out scheduled flights to Azerbaijan, Britain, Germany, Russia, Turkey, China, Iran, Pakistan, India and United Arab Emirates. Routes to Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan have recently been added to this list, the country is negotiating to open an air route to France, Italy, Canada and other countries.

The French businessmen presented the projects for construction of administrative, transport and communication, and cultural and entertainment facilities, including the new complex of the Cabinet of Ministers buildings, international airport building, fountain and park complex, a complex of monuments to be built in the center of the Turkmen capital, and a new park area to be laid out around the lake in the north of Ashgabat, the local media reported.
