Granulated sulfur exports via South Pars Export Terminal surpassed 1.7 million tons, managing director of Iran's South Pars Gas Complex Company (SPGC) Ali-Akbar Shabanpour said, Iran Daily website reported.

Shabanpour said the above mentioned figure has been produced in gas refineries of South Pars Gas Field since its establishment, IRIB reported.

"Granulated sulfur, the finest of its kind, is produced in South Pars Gas Complex," he added.
Shabanpour called petrochemical industries, textiles, metallurgy, tire manufacturing, polymer-cement concrete, sulfuric acid, paper, and asphalt as the fields which use sulfur.

Iran's South Pars Gas Complex has managed to produce over 363 billion cubic meters of sour gas from the South Pars joint field since the exploitation of refinery phases of South Pars gas field.

According to the report, SPGC supplies 40 percent of Iran's natural gas.

Known as the world's largest gas field, South Pars holds an estimated 50.97 trillion cubic meters (1,800 trillion cubic feet) of in-situ gas and some 50 billion barrels of condensates.

The Iranian share of the field has reserves of about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, which accounts for about 8 percent of the total world gas reserves.

The gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers (South Pars) are in Iranian territorial waters and 6,000 square kilometers (North Dome) are in Qatar's territorial waters.

According to Iranian Ministry of Petroleum the volume of Iranian gas reserves amounted to 33.1 billion cubic meters.
