Speaking at a conference organized by Sakarya University, Toyota Turkey's CEO Orhan Ozer said Toyota manufactured vehicles in 27 countries and its factory in Turkey was its third biggest facility in Europe.

Ozer said Toyota Turkey employed nearly 3,000 people, its total investments amounted to 1.7 billion USD and its estimated turnover for 2011 would be around 1.8 billion USD.

"Automotive is a business of volume. We have the capacity to produce 170,000 vehicles and we can increase such figure to 217,000 with a proper investment. This year we will manufacture 95,000 vehicles," he said.

"If everything goes well, we would like to increase this figure to 100,000," he noted.

Commenting on hybrid and electric cars as well, Ozer said Toyota had been selling hybrid vehicles since 1996.

"I believe hybrid cars are the best solution until a new technology is introduced," he said.

Ozer also noted that Turkish automotive sector had displayed a remarkable performance in the first two months of 2011.
