Azerbaijani Union of Free Consumers begins monitoring on salt quality on the country's product market from June 1, the union's chairman Eyyub Huseynov said at a pressconference.

He said the monitoring will cover 30 districts of Azerbaijan. Monitoring results will be received by late June and posted on the union's official website.
At present, availability of iodized salt in the country's markets stands at 85 percent.

A special program was adopted in Azerbaijan in connection with the problem of non-iodized salt in 2001, the law on compulsory salt iodization in 2002, and a ban was imposed on import of non-iodized salt into Azerbaijan in 2003.
