Foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy increase 21 percent

The total amount of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy hit 821.6 million manat in January-May 2011, or 20.7 percent more compared to the same period of last year, the State Statistics Committee said.

The total amount of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy hit 821.6 million manat in January-May 2011, or 20.7 percent more compared to the same period of last year, the State Statistics Committee said.

In January-May, 92.1 percent (756.8 million manat) of investments of foreign countries and the international organizations in the Azerbaijani economy accounted for investors from Great Britain, the U.S., Japan, Norway, Korea, Turkey, France, Czech Republic.

Great Britain continues to keep leading positions on amount of investments in Azerbaijan. The country's share in volume of foreign investments hit 48.4 percent. British investments hit 397.2 million manat.

U.S. investment totaled 135.7 million manat (with weight of 16.5 percent), Japan - 82.2 million manat (10 percent), French - 21.1 million manat (2,6 percent), Norway - 46.3 million manat (5.6 percent), Czech - 25.4 million manat (3.1 percent), Turkey - 39.5 million manat (4.8 percent), Korean - 9.3 million manat (1.1 percent) , Swiss - 3.2 million manat (0.4 percent), Saudi Arabia - 2.4 million manat (0.3 percent), Italian - 237,600 manat, Luxembourg - 60,300 manat.

The major volume of investments was allocated by WB in amount of 37.4 million manat with special weight of 4.6 percent. ADB allocated 20.04 million manat (2.4 percent) to implement projects in Azerbaijan, while Islamic Development Bank - 1.4 million manat (0.2 percent).
