Deflation hits 0.9 percent in Azerbaijan

Consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan dropped by 0.9 percent in June 2011 compared to the previous month, said the State Statistics Committee. The figure increased by 8.8 percent in the first half of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.

Consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan dropped by 0.9 percent in June 2011 compared to the previous month, said the State Statistics Committee. The figure increased by 8.8 percent in the first half of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.

During the month, the price of food dropped by 1.8 percent, tariffs for paid public services remained unchanged, and prices for industrial goods dropped by 0.1 percent.

As compared to the same period in 2010, food prices increased by 12.3 percent, tariffs for paid public services increased by 4.3 percent, and industrial goods prices dropped by 2.9 percent during the first half of 2011.

In June the base consumer price index, calculated net of goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables), and prices regulated by the state decreased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, and increased by 6.1 percent compared to Jan.-June 2010.
