Azerbaijan imported flour in amount of $48.69 million in January-June, an equivalent to 1.12 percent of total import during the reported period and an increase of 83.1 times compared to the same period of 2010, the State Customs Committee reported.
The import of grain rose by 19.14 percent up to $137.99 million, which is equivalent to 3.18 percent of total imports during the reported period.
Growth in imports of grain and flour is linked with the fact that the VAT exemption on imports of these products were during this period. The cabinet canceled these benefits on July 10.
The country imported foods in amount of $540.41 million (up 20.96 percent from the 2010 period), an equivalent to 12.44 percent of total import.
The import of foods in the first five months included sugar in amount of $67.99 million (16.1percent up; 1.57 percent of total import), butter in amount of $64.39 million (11.35 percent down; 1.48 percent ), meat in amount of $10.9 million (9.43 percent up; 0.23 percent), and milk in amount of $4.946.4 billion (32.4 percent up; 0.11 percent).
The import of machinery, mechanisms, equipment, electrical devices and their spare parts in the first half of the year covered 32.27 percent of Azerbaijan's import. In January-June, the country imported machinery and equipment in the amount of $1.402billion, up 91.06 percent from the same period of last year.
Besides, the country imported transport vehicles and spare parts in the amount of $704.16 million (75.31 percent up; 16.21 percent of total import); ferrous metals and items in the amount of $521.028 million (35.9 percent up, 15.59 percent); timber and its items in the amount of $110.13 million (55.95 percent up; 2.54 percent); goods of everyday use in the amount of $24.296 million (10.66 percent up; 0.56 percent); furniture in the amount of $26.576 million (16.9 percent up; 0.61 percent), and pharmaceuticals in the amount of $91.026 million (up 35.85 percent; 2.1 percent).
The value of Azerbaijan's import was $4.344 billion, up 49.72 percent from the respective period of 2010.
The value of the export was $13.092 billion, up 27.78 percent from the same period of 2010.
The foreign trade turnover reached to $17.463 billion, up 32.62 percent from the respective period of last year.
Black ink in the foreign trade turnover was equivalent to $8.747 billion.
