Iran's food product export reaches $1.6 billion

Iran exported 1 million tons of food product on last solar year(ended on March20,2011) while its value increased by 22 percent comparing to previous year to $1.6 billion, IRNA reported quoting head of non metal industries in ministry of Mines and Industries Mehdi Sadeghi Niaraki as saying.

Iran exported 1 million tons of food product on last solar year(ended on March20,2011) while its value increased by 22 percent comparing to previous year to $1.6 billion, IRNA reported quoting head of non metal industries in ministry of Mines and Industries Mehdi Sadeghi Niaraki as saying.

"The food products covers 51 percent of Iran's export in non metal industries while it shares 4.6 percent of country's non oil products," he said.

The country exported its food products to more than 100 countries worldwide where 45 countries spent minimum of $1million each for Iran's food products.

He predicted the volume of Iran's food export will surpass $2 billion on current solar year(started on March 20,2011).

The value of dairy products exported by Iran increased by 25 percent to $367 million while it also exported more than 38,000 tons of vegetable oil valued $61 million amd 210,000 tons of sweets, chocolate and cookies worth $520 million.

The value of exported flour increased by15 percent to $31million while the export of sugar grew by 11 per cent to $23 million.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Iran is the third largest country in the Middle East and Central Asia in terms of exports and imports.
