Azerbaijan to adopt law to legalize illegal buildings

Azerbaijan will adopt a law to legalize illegal buildings by late 2011, Deputy Chairman of the State Urban Planning and Architecture Committee Dovletkhan Dovletkhanov told press on Thursday.

"After the projects of the detailed plan of Baku center, as well as the plan of Great Baku are approved, it is not ruled out that several facilities situated on main lines can be proposed to be demolished," he said. "The compensations will be provided."

He said that the version of the law on "Legalization of illegal buildings" has been prepared.

He said that illegal constructions are mostly on the outskirts of the city.

He said that the municipalities have already examined the situation with illegal constructions and presented results to the executive power.

"The construction situated in protective sanitary zones of major, export pipelines, power lines, can not be legalized," he said. "This moment will be considered."

"At present, SOCAR operates to prevent new constructions," he said. "SOCAR does not demolish old buildings and houses of citizens, having the relevant documents."

Illegal houses and buildings, to be built on the oil production area, will be demolished, Abdullayev said.
