The Azerbaijani State Caspian Sea Shipping Company (CASPAR) is going to get two new ferry vessels by the end of the navigation season for channels in the Russian Federation. They are under contract with the Croatian factory "Uljanik", CASPAR Head said Aydin Bashirov said at an event dedicated to 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.

"The new ferries are to arrive in Baku by November 2012," he said. "CASPAR already received two new ferry vessels in 2011."

An increase is now observed in the volume of freight ferries, particularly in connection with the opening of the new Baku-Aktau line for car transport, Bashirov said.

"Today, the Gara Garayev vessel operates on this line. However, a Fikret Amirov ship of the ro-ro type will arrive in Baku in the near future from the Black Sea. The aim is to strengthen the newly created line and increase freight volume within the TRASECA corridor," he said.

Since 2002, CASPAR has received a new cargo ship, two tankers with a deadweight of 8,000 , seven with deadweight of 13,000 tankers and one with deadweight of 12,000.
"CASPAR annually transports approximately 13 million tons of cargo. Despite the competitive conditions which have recently emerged in the Caspian Sea in connection with the creation of the littoral countries of their shipping, the company is taking all necessary steps to retain its leadership position," Bashirov said.
