Uzbekistan announces tender

The National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz announced a tender to construct a booster compressor station on the Eastern Berdah field in Ustyurt amounting to $113.76 million, the holding company said on Monday.

According to the terms of the tender, the winner must manufacture, supply equipment and conduct engineering at the station which produces two billion cubic metres of gas per year. Bids will be accepted until December 7 with the results announced early next year. The station will be constructed in the third quarter of 2013.

The gas condensate field Eastern Berdah was commissioned in 2002. At present, Uzbekneftegaz is working on a project to develop this field worth $192 million. This, together with Surgil and Northern Berdah is a base of raw materials from the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex which is under construction.

The design capacity of the complex is reckoned to be able to process 4.5 billion cubic metres of gas and 400,000 tons of polyethylene and 100,000 tons of polypropylene per year.

According to the preliminary data, the project cost is estimated to be $4.5 billion. At present, Uzbekneftegaz develops the Surgil field. Another 1.5 billion cubic metres will be supplied to the complex from other Ustyurt fields.

The Ustyurt oil and gas region is one of the largest in Uzbekistan and the least studied. The promising area of land is 105,100 square kilometres. Prospective Gas's Resources are estimated at 1,685 trillion cubic metres with liquid hydrocarbons - in 1, 720 billion tons.

Uzbekistan occupies second place among CIS countries after Russia's natural gas production. Every year about 60 billion cubic meters of gas are produced in the country.
Uzbekneftegaz, established in 1998 and has six joint stock companies holds a monopoly operator of the Uzbekistan oil and gas industry.
