Turkmenistan fulfils cotton harvesting target

Turkmenistan has collected more than 1.050 million tons of raw cotton in line with its contractual obligations, an official Turkmen source said on Tuesday.

About 550,000 hectares was given to cotton in the country this year.

According to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's decree, beginning from 2011 the cotton producers are provided with opportunities to sell fiber, lint, obtained from industrial processing produced in excess of state procurement of raw cotton.

They can do it themselves or through Ak Altyn commercial agency at the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan, selling the product to both internal and external customers or to the State Concern Turkmenpagta at by state purchase prices.

Contractual obligations were overfulfilled in 2010 by collecting about 1.300 million tons of cotton instead of 1.050 million tons as targeted.

The country has 36 ginneries in State Concern Turkmenpagta. Raw grown in five provinces of the country Akhal, Mary, Lebap, Dashoguz and Balkan. Harvesting is usually implemented from August to October.

Medium type of Upload cotton is grown in all regions of the country, long staple cotton such as Pima is grown in the Akhal and Mary provinces. Cotton production can be realized through state trading on the Commodity Exchange of Turkmenistan.
