Banking sector assets increase in Turkey

The banking sector's assets amounted to 1 trillion in Turkey in December 2011, an increase of 21 percent compared to the same period in 2010, the Turkish government said on Tuesday.

The capital adequacy ratio was 16.5 percent for 2011.

The vapital adequacy ratio is a measure of banking activities expressed as a ratio of own bank funds to the total asset volume.

The banking sector's net profit in Turkey was 19 billion lire for the period, or 10.3 percent less than in 2010.

The official exchange rate on Feb.7 is 1.7557 TRY/USD.
