In 2011, 50 customs officers were dismissed in Kazakhstan due to negative motives, Deputy Chairman of the Customs Control Committee Alexander Kochubei said at an enlarged board meeting on Monday.

"In 2011, 127 official investigations were conducted into misconduct by customs officials. Some 1,022 employees were brought to disciplinary responsibility, 50 of whom were dismissed from the customs authorities on negative motives," Kochubei said.

He said corruption-related crimes and offenses in the customs authorities are committed due to lack of proper institutional control. For example, 51 corruption offenses were revealed in 2011. Some 40 persons were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
