Agricultural production in Azerbaijan increases by almost 3 percent in January

The agricultural production in Azerbaijan has increased by 2.9 percent in January 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, State Committee on Statistics said on Monday.

According to provisional data, it is expected to harvest autumn crops of plants from an area of 956.4 thousand hectares in 2012. Some 689.1 thousand hectares or 72.1 percent accounts for wheat, 267.3 thousand hectares or 27.9 percent for oats.

The average yield of autumn grain plants was 23.6 quintals per hectare for over the past three years, it is expected that these areas will be harvested grain at 2.3 million tones.

We are carrying out cultivation work in the fields, in orchards and vineyards, at the same time the preparation for being sowing of spring plants is being implemented.

Some 34.7 thousand tons of meat in live weight, 123.6 thousand tons of milk, 92.4 million eggs were produced in January 2012.

Meat production increased by 2.2 percent, milk - by 4.4 percent, eggs - by 0.2 percent compared to January 2011.
