The ratings agency Standard & Poor's further lowered Greece's credit rating late Monday from "CC" to "Selective Default" amid the country's ongoing debt crisis, DPA reported.

S&P cited an action by the country's government regarding its sovereign debt that began a "distressed debt restructuring."

Greece's government last week retroactively inserted collective action clauses in the documentation of certain sovereign debt series, according to S&P.
