Azerbaijan announces tender for construction of new port

The Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan has announced a tender for the purchase of work and services for construction, supply of necessary materials and installation in the port complex in the framework of building a new international sea port in the village of Alat (Baku), the newspaper "Respublika" said on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan has announced a tender for the purchase of work and services for construction, supply of necessary materials and installation in the port complex in the framework of building a new international sea port in the village of Alat (Baku), the newspaper "Respublika" said on Wednesday.

Application for participation in the tender and other documents should be submitted before 17:00 on May 8, 2012. Tender bids and bank guarantee must be submitted before 17:00 on May 18.

Bids will be opened on May 21, 2012.

The total cost of construction of the port is estimated at 870 million manat. The first and most basic phase of construction is estimated at 540 million manat. The cost of the second and third phases will be 150 and 180 million manat, respectively.

Construction of a new international port began in November 2010. It is located 65 kilometers south of Baku in the village of Alat.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of two ferry and three cargo berths for receiving containers, vessels "ro-ro" and conventional (universal) bulk carriers. The second phase of the project involves the construction of three more cargo berths, and the third - the construction of an additional two cargo berths.

Port in Alat will be multimodal, because it is planned to establish a free economic zone in this area, along with logistics center in the future.
