U.S., Kazakhstan, Germany to export wheat to Iran

Iran plans to import wheat from the U.S., Kazakhstan and Germany in April after the country imported 5,200 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan last week, an the Iranian State Commercial Organization reported today.

Ahmad Abdoust told the ILNA news agency that despite global economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic, many countries are interested in having trade relations with Iran.

Wheat production in Iran reached about 13.5 million tons in 2 011 indicating no change compared to the figure for 2010.

According to a report released by UN Food and Agriculture Organization Iran imported 1.3 million tons of wheat in the current year which shows an increase of 100,000 tons compared to the figure for the previous year which was 1.2 million tons.

According to the report, total wheat reserves of the country dropped from 3 million tons in 2010 to 2.1 million tons in the current year.
