Gold production in Turkey increased to 25 tons in 2011 compared to 17 tons in 2010, the Association of Gold in Turkey said.
According to the report, Turkey plans to increase gold production in the country to 35 tons in 2012.
Turkey imported about 150 tons of gold, paying eight billion lire in 2011. Gold imports amounted to 2573 tons for over the past 17 years.
The report says Turkey began producing gold in 2001. The production in the country amounted to 1.4 thousand tons during those times.
