Trade turnover between Turkey and Iran ups by more than a third

Trade turnover between Turkey and Iran amounted to $16.51 billion in 2011 compared to $12.4 billion in 2010, the Iranian Embassy in Turkey said on Wednesday.

Trade turnover between Turkey and Iran amounted to $16.51 billion in 2011 compared to $12.4 billion in 2010, the Iranian Embassy in Turkey said on Wednesday.

This is a record figure in the history of economic cooperation between the two countries. Turkey's exports to Iran during the reporting period grew by 17.9 per cent whilst Iran's exports to Turkey grew by 63 per cent.

Oil and gas were an integral part of Iran's exports to Turkey in 2011, while Turkey exported mainly metals, textile and household appliances to Iran.

In December 2011, Iran's share of Turkey's total exports hit 2.7 per cent, while the share of imports was 3.5 per cent of total imports into Turkey.

According to the embassy, Iran's total exports in 2011 amounted to $97.6 billion, with imports standing at $58.27 billion.
