Uzbek President Islam Karimov has criticized the activity of a number of industrial spheres to develop export products and urged the Cabinet of Ministers to take effective measures to increase products for export.

The statement was made in the presidential resolution on additional measures to strengthen the incentives of exporting enterprises and expand competitive products exports.

In particular, the President urged to consider the increase in goods for exports as one of the most important criteria.

"However, one should admit that export volumes are not increasing in such spheres as construction materials, food, leather and footwear," the document said.

The president said it is connected with limited thinking and the failure of the heads of many companies, and the lack of plans for production renovation and modernization.

According to the official statistics, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover in 2011 increased by 15 percent - up to $25.537 billion. In particular, exports increased by 15.4 percent - up to $15.027 billion, import - by 14.5 percent to $10.509 billion. Uzbekistan's trade
surplus in 2011 increased by 6.4 percent to $4.517 billion compared to 2010.
