Kazakhstan is gradually changing its status from being an international aid recipient to a donor, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov said at the government hour in Majilis on Monday.

"In terms of the GDP per capita, Kazakhstan is gradually reaching rates of Eastern European countries. Accordingly, the status of our country changes: from recipient to donor in terms of international aid," Kazykhanov said.

He stressed that it is economic growth that contributes to this change in the country's status.

"Today we set our tasks to turn the city of Almaty into a sub-regional hub of multilateral diplomacy and open a large office of the UN Secretariat, he said.
