Kazakh contractors can work not only on the market of Central Asia, but also carry out projects in those countries where national oil companies are present, the chairman of the Kazakh Union of service companies, Almas Kudaibergen, believes.
"Until now, the Kazakh service companies are not involved in major projects of KazMunaiGas and its subsidiaries outside the territory of Kazakhstan. For example, in the reconstruction of factories of Rompetrol (the largest foreign asset of KazMunaiGas) in the field of oil refining in 2009-2011 to hundreds of millions of dollars almost all work was carried out by non-Kazakh companies," said Kudaibergen, speaking on Tuesday at the conference" Kazneftegazservis-2012" in Astana.
He noted that many state agencies are charged with regulating local content.
"Why is this function dispersed among ministries and agencies, and service companies often do not always know who to call for help," the head of the Union said.
