The freight transportation volume totaled 15.5 million tons in Georgia in January-March, or 0.4 percent more than the same period of last year, the Economy Ministry's statistics said on Monday.

The freight transportation volume totaled 15.5 million tons in Georgia in January-March, or 0.4 percent more than the same period of last year, the Economy Ministry's statistics said on Monday.

The volume of freight transportation by land transport in Georgia amounted to 10.2 million tons in January-March 2012.

During this period, the volume of goods transported by sea amounted to 5.3 million tons.

About 36.4 percent of freight transportation falls to road transport, 34.2 percent - maritime transport and 29.4 - railroad. The cargo transported by vehicles increased by one percent within three months of 2012.

During the period Batumi and Poti ports transported 1.8 tons of cargo.

Georgia transported 69.7 million passengers by land transport in Jan.-March 2012, or 3 percent more compared to the same period of last year.
