Baku metro prepares for new entrance at station

The reconstruction and modernization of the main entrance of the May 28 metro station will begin in 2012, a source in the Baku metro told Trend today.

A source told Trend that the government has already received several projects. The work can be conducted in accordance with these projects.

"The work will begin this year after one of the variants is chosen," the source said. "Much work will be conducted. Besides the reconstruction of the lobby, it is also planned to replace the escalator."

The source said that about 13 million manat will be allocated from the state budget to conduct the work at the station.

Besides replacing the escalator, it is planned to expand it from three to four lanes.

Before commissioning the main entrance of the station, passengers will use the second exit and exit of "Jafar Jabbarli" adjacent to "May 28" station.

Baku Metro has been operating since 1967. It has 23 stations.

Previously, a 20-year program of developing Baku Metro was adopted.

According to the long-term perspective development scheme, its entire network will consist of five lines in the future compared to the current two.
