Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreases

Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 30 percent in June 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, amounting to $7.1 billion, the Institute of Statistics of Turkey said on Tuesday.

Turkey's export increased by 16.9 percent in June 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, amounting to $13.2 billion. The import to Turkey decreased by 5.4 percent to $20.4 billion during the year.

Imports from EU countries to Turkey amounted to 37 percent of total imports in June 2012 compared to 48.2 percent in June 2011. Turkey's exports to the EU for the period decreased by 10 percent and amounted to $4.9 billion.

The greatest import to Turkey was made from Russia - $2.4 billion, which is 33.5 percent more compared to the same month in 2011. Imports from Germany amounted to $ 1.7 billion, and China - $1.3 billion.
