Construction of the third airport in Istanbul would cost ten billion lira, Air Transport Department of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications told Trend on Monday.
According to the report, an international tender to build the new airport will be announced this month. It is expected that the results of the tender will be made public within two months.
Construction of the airport will begin this year and it will be put into operation by 2015.
The tender terms envisage "turnkey" commissioning of the facility.
The ministry also stressed that at the first phase the airport will have capacity to serve 90 million people a year. Later, this figure will increase up to 150 million people.
Earlier it was reported that the third airport with an area of 750,000 square meters, will be located in the European side of Istanbul, in the north of the city close to the sea.
