The VISA international payment system is going to expand its list of Azerbaijani banks which are organisation members, the company's general director on Eastern Europe countries and CIS Jean-Marc Tonti reported to Trend.
"As many as 35 Azerbaijani banks are currently members of VISA, with 43 in total operating in the country. They have different rights based on their status. We are keen to expand the list of partner banks in Azerbaijan," Tonti said.
He added 3.6 million VISA cards are in operation in Azerbaijan. The growth in card numbers amounted to 54 per cent during 2011-2012.
However increasing the number of cards is not a primary task for VISA. More than five million plastic cards are in operation in Azerbaijan, 3.6 of them belong to Visa which is a good indicator.
Today our task is to increase the number of card accepting locations and thereby card users. We are keen to cover the whole population," Tonti said.
