Japanese bank shows interest in chemical project in Turkmenistan

Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) shows interest in investing in the project at a chemical plant in Turkmenabat, Lebap region, which is preparing for a major reconstruction, Turkmenhimiya State Concern said on Monday

"Turkmenhimiya" State Concern is preparing to sign an agreement on constructing a sulfuric acid production unit at the plant.

Such companies as "Mitsui Inginiring & Shipbulding Co." (Japan) and "Rönesans Türkmen Inşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş." (Turkey) voiced the intention to participate in a major project. They made a joint proposal.

According to the proposed project, a new unit for the sulfuric acid production will consist of a single technological line of double absorption having a continuous production capacity of 1,500 metric tons of sulfuric acid per day.

The unit is designed for continuous round the clock work during 333 days a year.
Sulfuric acid, synthetic ammonia are used as the main component in the production of phosphate fertilizers.

The chemical plant in the city of Turkmenabat, Lebap region delivered 269,720 tons of fertilizers to farmers from January to August 2012, the agriculture ministry said.

The plant provides all regions with phosphorus fertilizers, which allows to increase crop yields. Turkmenistan grows cotton, corn, rice and sugar beet.

Turkmenabat chemical plant is a single set of phosphate fertilizer and sulfuric acid.
