Steel prices have doubled in the past few weeks, the head of Iran's Society of Mass Housing Builders Iraj Rahbar said on Tuesday.
"The price of cement price has also increased by 20 per cent," the Mehr news agency quoted Rahbar as saying.
"The rise in the cost of construction materials results in an increase in house prices," he said.
A number of Iranian newspapers reported in June that house rents had increase by 50 per cent in Iran compared to the past year.
Neither imperative nor encouraging policies have been successful in curbing rent prices, according to the reports.
"To control the housing prices, we should both increase the supply and curb unofficial dealings," a member of the Iranian High Council of Housing said.
