Number of people working in non-oil sector increases in Azerbaijan

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, as of October 1, around 4.639 million fall to employed population. As of January-August, the number of hired workers hit 1.376 million, including 848,500 people working in the public sector of economy, and 528,400 people - in private sector.

The number of people working in the oil sector is 37,100 people, in the non-oil sector - 1. 339 million people. Around 1.336 million people fall to the hired workers in the non-agricultural sector.

The number of hired workers engaged in the manufacturing sphere hit 22.1 percent. Around 6.7 percent of them work in construction, 5.9 percent - in manufacturing sphere, 2.9 percent - agriculture, forestry and fishery, 2.6 percent - mining sphere, 2.2 percent - the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 1.8 percent - water supply, treatment and recycling.

Around 24.2 percent of employees work in education sphere, 19.6 percent - in the sphere of trade, repair of vehicles, 9.5 percent - in the sphere of health and social services, 4.9 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and the arts, 3.2 percent - scientific and technical activities, 1.9 percent - communication and information, 1.7 percent - financial and insurance activities and 1 percent - in other areas.

As of October 1, around 37,400 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan. Around 42.3 percent of them are women. Two officially unemployed claim for one vacancy in Azerbaijan. The number of unemployed in the country decreased by 0.8 percent in September.
