Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has received the French Total head Christophe de Margerie in Ashgabat, the official Turkmen source said on Tuesday.
The businessman said "his company is ready to build a partnership with Turkmenistan in field investment, exploration, and exploitation."
The CEO also noted the growing interest of the large French business and, above all, companies from the energy sector, as well as dealing with the development of infrastructure, in Turkmenistan.
Total is the fourth largest oil and gas company in the world in terms of market capitalization. It operates in 42 countries. The company has extensive experience in the production of hydrocarbons, both onshore and offshore.
Total's activity covers the research, exploration, production and refining of hydrocarbons to their transportation and sale.
Total has been active in the field of energy-saving technologies, the introduction of so-called renewable energy sources - solar, wind, and alternative fuels.
According to independent sources, Total holds talks in Turkmenistan on the details of a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) to develop the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, which is prepared to be signed.
Petronas, Dragon Oil, Buried Hill, RWE, Itera are involved to development of the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea. Negotiations are underway with BP, Chevron, TX Oil, ConocoPhilips, Marathon, ExxonMobil, Mubadala.
