House prices in Tehran have increased by 30 per cent in the past two months, Tabnak News Website reported. House rents have also increased by 35 per cent.

Experts believe that the rising trend of the dollar and gold prices in the Iranian market, as well as sharp rise in costs of construction materials have resulted in the price rises.

In June, s number of Iranian newspapers had reported that house rents had increased by 50 per cent in Iran compared to the past year.

Neither imperative nor encouraging policies have been successful in curbing the rent prices, according to the reports.

Experts believe that to control house prices, Iran should both increase the supply and curb unofficial dealings.

Building permits issued in Tehran jumped 87 per cent in the June-August period from a year earlier, statistics from the mayor's office show.

Tehran is more than twice as expensive as Istanbul, a similar sized city in wealthier neighbouring Turkey.
