Azerbaijan announces tender within water users support project

Azerbaijani Irrigation and Water Management company has announced an open tender to restore irrigation and drainage canals in Garadagh district within the World Bank's Water Users Associations Development Support Project (WUAP), the official press reported today.
The contract envisages cleaning the canals from the mud, restoring the destroyed hydro-technical facilities at irrigation canals or constructing new facilities, restoring existing drainage canals within the contract.

Applicants' bids and a bank guarantee are accepted until 15:00, Dec.26, at the following address: Room 514, 5th floor, Government House, Str. U.Hajibeyov, 40, Baku.

Bids must be valid during 120 days from the opening date and must have a bank guarantee to the amount of 50,000 manat.

Bids are not accepted in electronic form.

The Azerbaijani government and the World Bank signed a loan agreement to allocate $80 million to implement the WUAP project in October 2011. Some $76.8 million of this amount will be provided by the International Development Association (IDA) and $3.2 million by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). With a $34.3 million government contribution the total financing of the project will be $114.3 million.

The project is expected to improve the productivity of 760,000 small scale farmers located in 27 provinces of Azerbaijan thanks to the redevelopment of the country's on-farm irrigation and drainage networks and capacity building activities being supported by new financing from the World Bank.

The official exchange rate is 0.7849 manat to $1 on Nov.24.
